Second Grade Classroom

The 2nd graders are working hard and learning so much already this year.  They are adjusting nicely to the expectations and routines of the classroom.

In ELA, students learned how to write a narrative using sequencing words.  They also learned how to identify pronouns, identify base words, and add suffixes to them.  They know all about past, present, and future tense verbs and how to make irregular past tense verbs.  They are all working so hard.

In science class, studies how caterpillars turn into butterflies.  We learned that all monarch butterflies migrate to Mexico!  We also have learned about animal biodiversity and habitats.  Did you know that different frogs make different sounds?  We listened to the different sounds or “calls” of different frogs and identified them based on what we heard.  It was so much fun!

In social studies, we are learning about communities and how to work together. Additionally, we are also working on reinforcing and building character traits each month.  September was responsiblity and in October we are working on Honesty.

In math, students worked so hard in module 1 and learned different strategies for addition and subtraction.  They are now using vocabulary words such as difference, sum, addends, and related facts.  We just finished module 2 and we learned all about even and odd numbers.  We also learned how to make an array and how to write the addition equation that goes with it.
