Despite the typical last-minute March snowstorm we experienced recently, I think spring is on its way! We are looking forward to warmer weather, allowing us to extend our classrooms outside, and the anticipated start of spring sports!

Our Youth and Government students along with Mrs. Bethanie Natalie attended the Annual State Conference the weekend of March 22nd. A local author, Rachel Vogel, visited our elementary students where they had the opportunity to hear her read one of her books and purchase their own signed copies! Some of our high school students attended a Youth Summit with Mrs. Kristy Miller where they learned skills to help them be positive school leaders.

Irish Pride Week–One of my favorite weeks of the year! Students and staff celebrated with themed days of pajamas, twin day, student/teacher look-alike day, sports jerseys, class theme, and green and white day! Activities included paper airplane contests, kickball, nitro ball, an Adirondack Experience presentation, Family Feud, and trips to the Fun Spot. Such a fun week here at MCS!

Athletics

Varsity baseball and softball started on March 11th, and modified began March 18th. Games will be starting in April. Tennis began practice on March 11th and their matches will begin in April as well! Keep an eye on the school website or Facebook page for game schedules.

CASDA MerGer FEASiBILIty StuDY

The last meeting of the Feasibility Committee was on March 13th in Johnsburg. I want to extend a thank you to all members of the committee from both Minerva and Johnsburg for their hard work and commitment to the merger conversation. Also, thank you to Jerry Steele and Mike Piccirillo for their work leading this group and their work in the next steps as they present their findings and recommendations to the two boards of education. Next in the process, CASDA will submit its report to the BOCES District Superintendent and State Education Department.  Once they approve it, they will present their findings and recommendations to both Minerva and Johnsburg Board of Educations. At this time, the board will determine if they want to move forward with the straw vote. If you have any questions about the process please reach out to me at school

Calendar Update

Each year when we build the calendar, we plan for snow days while still making sure to have our 180 days required by the state. If we do not use those snow days I can “give them back.” This year we will be using two of those “snow days” in the spring! Our first one will be on April 8th. With our area being a prime Solar Eclipse viewing location, I feel that it is the perfect day to take off to ensure the safety of our students and staff while allowing them to spend this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity with their families! A letter outlining this in more detail has been sent home. Our second one will be May 24th, which gives us a four-day weekend for Memorial Day! If you have any questions please contact the school office.
